Investigations have begun into deaths in accidents at two Irish ports last week.

A port worker was killed after he was struck by machinery at the port of Dublin on Friday.

And on Thursday at Waterford, a 51-year-old Filipino crewman died after falling more than five metres on a cargoship.

The seafarer was trying to tie down a load on board the 3,600-dwt multipurpose Scot Pioneer (built 2006).

The Port of Waterford Company issued a statement to extend its sympathy to the family and colleagues of the crewman.

The vessel is operated by Scotline of the UK.
