Main Responsibilities:

  • Demurrage auditing, data analysis
  • Negotiates demurrage claims from ship/barge owners and third-parties
  • Invoices third parties in line with charter party and commercial contract terms
  • Builds and maintains professional relationships with internal and external clients
  • Actively communicates with counterparties to ensure timely collection of receivables
  • Reports status of demurrage negotiations to traders and/or Risk Department
  • Work closely with Finance/Accounting to ensure efficient processing of demurrage payables and proper billing of receivables
  • Disputes demurrage bills as necessary and resolve account payable discrepancies
  • Communicates with the shipping team to proactively minimize and avoid potential demurrage issues
  • Thoroughly reviews contracts and advises traders when lay-time and demurrage language requires realignment. Reviews third-party contracts and proposals for potential commercial risk.
  • Schedule reviews for expiring contracts
  • Analyzes demurrage trends to understand business updates and advises the trading group in ways to minimize future risk
  • Develops ad-hoc metrics when needed

    Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Marinetime Law or Logistics preferred)
  • Advance Microsoft Office Applications preferred, with an understanding of database structure and design a plus
  • Working knowledge of querying languages such as SQL
  • Exposure to contract interpretation
  • Ability to negotiation is very helpful

    Preferred:

  • A minimum of 3+ years relevant demurrage analysis experience, or operation experience
  • Shipping knowledge strongly preferred
  • Experience with charter party agreements will be helpful
