Local Aids to Navigation Manager

Trinity House is the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar, we are a world leader in the provision of aids to navigation. Providing nearly 600 aids to navigation, the service uses three ships and new technology to deliver a leading-edge service.

Following an internal promotion we are currently seeking a Local Aids to Navigation Manager to plan, coordinate and audit Local Lighthouse Authorities who are responsible for over 11,000 Local Aids to Navigation throughout England and Wales.

In addition to planning and executing the vital audit of local aids to navigation providers to ensure compliance with IALA guidelines and Trinity House directions, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing marine knowledge and assistance to a small specialised team and promoting Trinity House requirements in the marine community. A major function of the role is managing a web based system to ensure availability reporting compliance by local lighthouse authorities and offshore renewable energy providers. The successful applicant will also be responsible for initial inspections of offshore wind farm aids to navigation and deputising for the Inspector of Seamarks when required.

We require a Master Mariner with extensive knowledge of coastal waters around England and Wales; proven auditing experience, excellent IT, analytical, and report writing skills will be essential in this role. As the role is based around working in London with extensive travel and occasional home working, good planning and time management skills will be required.

A valid ENG1 and a full, clean driver’s licence are essential for the role which will involve travel, sometimes at short notice to both onshore and offshore establishments.
