Deputy Director UK Ship Register

Safer lives, safer ships and cleaner seas. At the Maritime & Coastguard Agency our mission is to protect lives and the environment, on the coast and at sea. This is an exciting time of change and growth for our UK Ship Register directorate. As we embrace a more commercial ethos, you will enjoy the chance to play a significant role in how the UK flag operates in the future.

About the role

In this brand new role, you’ll assist the UK Ship Register’s new Director in promoting the UK flag worldwide. Taking a commercially minded, customer focussed approach, we intend to attract quality owners with quality ships to the UK register. We will look to you to manage our organisation and working methods, making sure we achieve and maintain world-class standards of customer service. Crucially, you will deliver strategies to double the size of the UK Ship Register, while enabling us to identify new commercial opportunities and grow initiatives in the wider market.

With your inspiring leadership, we will make exciting changes and develop the Register as a stand-alone, commercial directorate within the Agency. Creating an ethos of high performance across operational services, you will maximise the benefits of change. In this high profile, highly visible post you will forge strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders - in Government, the maritime industries, and the international shipping community - as an ambassador of the business.

About you

To be equal to the challenge, you’ll need a successful senior level track record within customer and client facing relationship services in either flag administration, ship classification, ship operations or ship management. You have knowledge and experience of leading diverse functions to achieve success in a fast moving, maritime environment in which commercial delivery is paramount.

Please note, this is a two year fixed term appointment in the first instance. It may be extended or made permanent.

In return, you can look forward to a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package and structured career development.
