Chartering Manager, Maersk Line Operations

Maersk Line Operations is looking for a skilled and dynamic chartering colleague to join our high-impact, international team based in Copenhagen.

With a fleet of 650 vessels, we offer our customers service and flexibility, with a first class operation that focuses on improving the way Maersk Line manages and optimizes its global portfolio.

We Offer:

In addition to being the best ship sourcing (chartering, sale & purchase and new-building) team in the industry, we offer an exciting, impactful job in a global organization with a high-degree of autonomy. We will, with your help, build our strategic capabilities to ensure that we not only get the best prices, but also the right ships across a whole business cycle.

As part of the Vessel Chartering team, you will be a key player in Maersk Line's relentless drive and ambition to be the lowest cost, highest quality shipping line, with significant cross-functional and external exposure.

Key responsibilities:

You will be responsible for managing and optimizing a portfolio of 50-100 container vessels. We require you to have a deep understanding of our global network requirements, and how these change over time and determine whether our current port-folio of vessels can satisfy these requirements, and consequently which ships should enter/exit the portfolio.

Above all, this entails close coordination with Network Planning, Operation Execution, Bunkering and other relevant departments. As you will be planning and executing multi-million-dollar transactions, close cooperation with Finance will also be a must. Significantly improving fuel efficiency, slot cost and service delivery to our clients is part of our Must Win Battles, requiring close coordination with our colleagues in Operations and Performance Management Teams. You will have direct external contact with ship owners, operators and brokers from around the world.

Who we are looking for:

The successful candidate must:

  • have chartering experience from the container industry

  • have natural commercial flair, and the ability to develop business cases and creative value-adding opportunities

  • be an experienced negotiator with a structured approach to managing and optimizing a portfolio of assets

  • have an exceptional ability to prioritize right and get to the core of the problem

  • have the ability to simplify and constructively challenge the status quo

  • be a team player with ability to listen, learn and share

  • excel at stakeholder management and be able to influence decisions outside their own authority

  • have had international experience
