Operations Manager - Chemical

You will be responsible for co-ordinating the day-to-day operational activities of the vessels in an efficient, timely and cost effective manner, to ensure the Owners and Charterers expectations are met.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Minimise the operational costs and controlling vessels’ performance to ensure overall performance of the voyage are in line with Owners and Charterers expectations.
  • Within the required timescales, provide the Master with all required information, including but not limited to, CP terms, stowage plans, discharge instructions and method statements.
  • Effective coordination of bunker supplies in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Checking freight/hire invoices upon completion of loading or upon delivery to Charterers.
  • Checking and approving cargo documentation such as bills of lading and statements of facts etc.
  • Assist with the commercial analysis, preparation of company operational and annual reports, and Lay Time and Off-hire statements on completion of each voyage.
  • Attending vessels as required.
  • Assist as part of the emergency / crisis management team and make appropriate requirements.
  • Remain current on industry rules, regulations and best practice and ensure that procedures are updated accordingly.

Skill Profile:

  • Degree in shipping operations / Master’s Certificate or equivalent.
  • Sailed to a minimum of Chief Officer.
  • Previous experience of carrying out the shore based day to day operations of a chemical fleet is essential.
  • Understanding and awareness of vessel design, cargo types, voyage instructions, stowage plans, vessel KPI’s key ports and voyage routes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively build and maintain strong relationships with key contacts.
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills together with the ability to support decisions with sound reasoning and judgement.
  • Demonstrated record of commercial awareness and ability to apply sound commercial judgement.
