Dry Cargo Charterer - London

Fantastic opportunity to work in a highly experienced chartering division of a well-respected Commodity Trading House.  The successful candidate will be responsible for arranging and managing chartering services for traders of various products.  Applicants should have a strong commercial sense to provide the best service to the company and its buyers and sellers.  There is also potential to grow the department to be a profit centre in its own right.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Chartering of freight requirements for the group
  • Management of freight payments and vessel nominations
  • Issuing bill of lading, operations, logistics, and the post fixture of Ronly group including settlements of Demurrage/Despatch with owners, shippers, receivers
  • Liaising with shippers/receivers and vessels in relation to load/discharge operations and vessel or cargo nomiantions
  • Reporting to traders with up to date information regarding current freight, trends and freight forecast, port situation, congestion, delays, obtaining freight indications, evaluating freight requirements
  • Management of chartering book where all fixtures are logged and analysed
  • Ensuring customer expectations are met in full
  • Opportunity to offer services to 3rd parties and generate profits for the chartering department

Requirements

  • Excellent chartering knowledge, with a minimum of 5 years' experience with voyage and time charter negotiations and operations
  • Well organised with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent knowledge of shipping documentation, charter party terms and freight rate negotiation
  • Able to take responsibility and make timely commercial decisions
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work both in a team and on their own
  • Numerate and computer literate to include Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Flexible and self-motivated operator, prepared to work out of office hours due to the nature of chartering business

Qualifications

  • Experience as a broker, owner or charterer in dry bulk shipping.  Liquid bulk shipping experience considered but not essential
  • Degree qualification is not essential
