The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers is a membership organisation with a strong emphasis on ethics. It is the leading professional body for all members of the commercial shipping industry worldwide. The Institute was founded in 1911 and granted a Royal Charter in 1920.
The Institute sets the syllabus and examinations for membership, providing the shipping industry with highly qualified professionals and is the leading internationally recognised professional body in the commercial maritime arena. Its members comprise shipbrokers, ship managers, agents and other shipping professionals throughout the world.
As a strategic leader you will take responsibility for meeting the goals of the Institute including its promotion, management, leadership, administration and policy frameworks set by the Controlling Council.
You will be promoting communications throughout the Institute with its staff, Controlling Council, expert committees, Branches and members as well as developing external relationships and public profile with outside organisations, government, private bodies and other external stakeholders.
Education is of course key to the Institute and you will ensure that the Institute continues to enhance is reputation as a leader in first class professional qualifications. You will be actively promoting and developing the Institute’s education programmes and will regularly engage with the international branch network across 26 locations.
In addition you will of course be responsible for leading a team of 12 dedicated, professional staff and numerous expert volunteers to continue the excellent work being completed by all.
Applications are welcomed from those who are strategic leaders with a good understanding of international trade and the global maritime industry along with experience reporting at Board level and the ability to meet reporting deadlines. You should possess a strong academic record with, as a minimum, a relevant Honours Primary Degree (second class or higher) from a recognised degree awarding authority or an equivalent relevant professional qualification. Academic qualifications above this minimum requirement would be advantageous. You will have no less than 5 years management experience leading a team as well as being able to work collaboratively within it. A solid understanding of financial management and reporting requirements is a must.
