£49,831 - £53,951 per annum based on a 37 hour week

The three ferries, based at Torpoint, provide a 24-hour service, 365 days a year and is an essential transport link particularly for people living in South East Cornwall. The Torpoint Ferry crossing is the busiest estuarial vehicular crossing in the United Kingdom with the three vessels carrying over 2.5 million vehicles a year.

 

The three chain ferries come under Maritime and Coastguard Agency regulations and are in class with Lloyds Register. They are believed to be the largest chain ferries in the world, and are unique vessels presenting a wide range of both engineering and operational challenges.

 

The Ferry Manager has responsibility for both the engineering and operational aspects of the service, with a primary role to provide a safe, reliable and efficient ferry service with a high level of customer satisfaction. The organisation employs over 70 operational and technical staff at the Torpoint Ferry.  Within the team is a mix of skills with varied length of service and you will be required to promote an improvement culture and have strong leadership skills to create an effective, high performing team.  This would therefore ideally suit a manager with strong people management skills where you will be instrumental in the success of the operation.

 

Previous experience of working in a marine environment would be an advantage but if you have experience in a similar environment and you have the skills and experience we are looking for we would like to hear from you. Applicants will need to have

 

  • Experience at a management or senior management level within engineering environments
  • Undertaking a similar role in a marine engineering or similar working environment involving overseeing technical repairs
  • Highly developed leadership skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Management of substantial budgets
  • Preparing technical & contractual specifications for engineering work, dealing with contractors and managing contracts efficiently and cost effectively
  • Relevant experience of managing and leading multi-skilled teams and team building
