The Role

The Senior Manager, Fleet Technical Operations is a key Leadership role here at Carnival UK and is responsible for in service Fleet Maritime Technical Operations of assigned vessels within the Carnival UK group P&O Cruises & Cunard Line.

This role is responsible for setting, maintaining, and implementing all Maritime standards required to ensure compliance with all Statutory, Company and ISM Code requirements. The role will also have responsibility of the overall maintenance/repair strategy for the CUK Fleet. Working closely with the asset management team and aligning with their strategy, providing the highest reliability and availability of vessels and assets to meet Business objectives.

As well as operational governance, this role includes all aspects of Technical and Deck operations relating to the physical integrity of the asset and is responsible for ensuring the required level of maritime support is provided to the on-board management team to maintain the required standards and operational effectiveness.

The role is part of the Emergency Response for maritime Fleet support for any major unplanned events. The Senior Manager will work closely with the onboard Maritime Senior Management Team (SMT) to directly manage any required resource within the team ashore and departments on board to achieve these requirements, coordinating closely with the other Ship Managers within the Fleet Team.

The accountabilities include:

  • Compliance: responsible for ensuring continued compliance of the CUK Fleet with the ISM code, the Environmental Compliance Plan (ECP) and internal GHESS policies and procedures. The Fleet Manager will focus on the management of SRNCs, investigation and related actions, to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance across the Fleet.
  • Risk: using reporting tools including the BRR, the Senior Manager, Fleet Technical Operations will ensure a tolerable level of risk is maintained across the Fleet, communicating, and escalating emerging risks as required.
  • Performance: using business information including Neptune and Olympus VOP the Senior Manager, Fleet Technical Operations will maintain a strong focus on Fleet performance as tracked by ABG and CUK internal metrics.
  • Standards: The Senior Manager, Fleet Technical Operations is responsible for ensuring the required level of maritime support is provided to the on-board management team to maintain the required standards and operational effectiveness. To deliver this, the Senior Manager, Fleet Technical Operations will ensure accurate reporting of maritime and hotel standards via reporting tools and assurance visits.
  • The Senior Manager, Fleet Technical Operations will ensure operational availability and ship condition is maintained, focussing the team of technical superintendents to the appropriate operational and strategic priorities.
  • The Senior Manager, Fleet Technical Operations will maintain a fleet view and actively influence the Asset Management strategy and the implementation of planned maintenance changes across the CUK fleet.
  • Attend Ships within the fleet on a regular basis to review/monitor the maritime condition and performance of each vessel. Ensure that a comprehensive plan of ship visits and related actions is set up and maintained to meet the requirements of the ISM Code.
  • Deputise for the Director, Fleet Technical Operations as required
  • OPEX:  Control and manage the Repair and Maintenance budget for assigned vessels, ensuring variance to forecast is predicted and documented. Ensures the drivers behind these variances are fully understood by the business and is accountable for reducing associated risk/costs via planning.
  • OPEX: Support the creation of the R&M annual budget, working with finance, ship managers and on-board teams to identify structural changes and associated drivers.
  • CAPEX: Using the Capital plan, ensure that the major asset risks are mitigated with appropriate investment, and required and desired improvement initiatives are reflected accurately. Conduct regular review of the Capital plan to ensure forecast remains appropriate.
  • Capital project management and accountability for specific Fleet wide technical projects.
  • Shore: Line management of up to 4 Ship Managers, Technical Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, or managers.
  • Ship:  Maritime Operations workforce planning, and recruitment as required. Maritime Officer & Crew Performance Management and effectiveness for allocated vessels.
  • Support the Director, Fleet Technical Operations in providing leadership of the Fleet operational team both ashore and on board.
  • Continuously review performance, promoting best practice, leading change, enabling, and contributing to the improvement of performance, process, and delivery of efficiencies always.
  • Effectively communicate Maritime objectives and KPI’s to all areas of the department to ensure a strong integrated approach is achieved.
  • Asset Management: The Fleet Manager will work with ship managers, SMEs, and on-board teams to identify and implement asset management strategies for key equipment, feeding into the Capital Plan and accurately documenting the risk using the BRR.
  • Refits: The Fleet Manager will ensure refit specifications reflect the appropriate scope of works for future refits, identifying and addressing major risks and implementing asset management strategies.

Our role categories range from CUK15 (entry level) to CUK1 (Brand President) so you can clearly see internal development opportunities. This role is a CUK06 and is offered on a full time, permanent contract, with at least two days based in our Southampton office.
