The Role

The role of Facilities Superintendent will support the ongoing maintenance and upgrades of the hotel and guest facing facilities on board our P&O Cruises and Cunard Fleet of ships.

This role is part of a exciting team that is the cornerstone of providing world class facilities maintenance support  our ships, working closely with the amazing on board teams, and Ship Managers ashore, you will specify, plan and manage facilities & hotel maintenance works on board both front and back of house.

The right person for the role will have a a high level of co-ordination and planning will be required to ensure that these activities are effective; delivering value for money without impacting the guest experience.

Some accountabilities include :

  • Definition and specification of Hotel & Facilities works to meet P&O and Cunard Guest Experience team expectations and Brand Standards.
  • Preparing specification of works for commercial tender; liaison with contractors during tender process to completion of works to a satisfactory standard.
  • Direct and co-ordinate facilities maintenance activities on board, ensuring successful completion to required quality standard.
  • Project management of facilities works on board ships in service and at refit. This will range from minor one off tasks and often over multiple attendances.
  • Visiting the fleet on a regular and planned basis to review/monitor the condition of the vessel. 
  • Working with the supply chain, on a daily basis, to ensure that the required spare parts and/or services are provided in a timely manner, at a cost effective price and to the company’s agreed purchasing and logistics procedures.
  • Manage and deliver Corporate and CUK projects and initiatives as assigned, ensuring comprehensive completion and formal handover to ship managers and ship crew.
  • Assist the planning, preparation and project management for initial scoping of ship refits and wet docks within their areas of responsibility including the facility assets and the associated budgets. Attend refits to manage specific scope.
  • Accountable for the forecast, control and variance analysis of facilities maintenance budget circa £5m p.a..
  • Forecast, control and variance analysis of Capital investments relating to facilities projects.


Our role categories range from CUK15 (entry level) to CUK1 (Brand President) so you can clearly see internal development opportunities. This role is a CUK07 and is offered on a full time permanent Contract , with at least two days based in our Southampton office.

About You

  • A level education or higher
  • Facilities Maintenance management qualifications
  • Knowledge of maritime regulations - SOLAS, Class Rules & applicable Statutory Legislation
  • Experience in management and operation of a wide and diverse range of marine facilities equipments
  • An understanding of Public Health legislation, in particular USPH and its requirements.
