Operations Executive - Melbourne

Pacific Basin is one of the world’s leading owners and operators of modern Handysize and Supramax dry bulk ships. We are headquartered and listed in Hong Kong and operate globally with a fleet of over 260 ships trading worldwide. Our team comprises about 5,100 seafarers and over 380 shore staff in 14 key locations around the world.

As part of our ongoing development, we have decided to recruit a suitable person for the following position, reporting to Head of Operations - Melbourne:

OPERATIONS EXECUTIVE - MELBOURNE
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • University graduate or relevant seagoing experience – preferably in Shipping and/or supply chain related studies;
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in dry bulk voyage and time charter operations;
  • Good experience of dry bulk ports in Australia and New Zealand;
  • Reliable team player, able to work effectively across desk and time zones in an international organization;
  • Previous experience with maritime business software systems, such as IMOS;
  • Willing to travel regionally and internationally with the ability to give immediate solutions to operational issues;
  • Customer focused, energy and creativity needed in a fast-pace international environment;
  • Initiative to seek operational cost savings and to maximize voyage profits;
  • Excellent communication skills, English language proficiency is essential;
  • Candidates are eligible to work in Australia.

 

JOB SCOPE

  • Operate a fleet of owned and chartered tonnage. Volumes will varying according to market drivers and office coverage during periods of staff absence.
  • Liaise with charterers, shippers, brokers, agents, port authorities, ship’s Master/crew, supercargoes and other stakeholders as required across the supply chain.
  • Work closely and maintain strong relationship among relevant customers’ in order to meet Charter Party requirements and to grow the business;
  • Key responsibilities include - manage cargo hold cleaning, calculate optimal cargo uplifts, voyage and bunker planning, debtor, voyage P&L and other critical financial activities, handle stevedore and cargo damage claims;
  • Establish and maintain close contact with regional Port Captains who add value to our business;
  • To visit customers, brokers, agents and other key commercial entities to maintain good working relationships;
