Gard is the largest P&I club in the International Group of P&I Clubs (IG) and one of the largest marine insurance groups in the world. To help our members and clients manage risks and their consequences, we actively engage with the wider marine insurance and shipping industries in the pursuit of viable and effective insurance solutions for shipowners globally.
To strengthen our voice within our industry, we are looking for a colleague to join our Industry Liaison team in London. The team is responsible for Gard’s industry relations, particularly the crucial relationship with the IG.
What will be your role?
The successful candidate will be part of a highly influential team within Gard. You will be involved in preparing specialist advice for the Gard group Leadership Team (GLT) on IG and other industry matters. Your reporting line will be to the Vice President, Head of Industry Liaison, however you will work in a team setting along with other functions and leaders within Gard.
- You will be part of a team that is an influential and respected voice for Gard in industry matters, in which you will aim to develop an ability to liaise effectively with the most senior levels of other P&I clubs, marine insurers and industry organisations.
- You will be involved in work streams that contribute to Gard’s future strategies and policies in the industry.
- You will help to implement industry-related initiatives within the Gard organisation.
- You will work across teams and functions in Gard to raise awareness of our participation in industry organisations and projects.
- You may be asked to help with the preparation of materials to report on industry matters including relevant legislative developments, and to outline and anchor Gard’s industry initiatives.
Who are you?
- You have, or have the necessary attributes to develop, high professional capabilities in the insurance and liability aspects of the maritime industry, including key legislation and regulations.
- You have ideally at least five years experience. However, please also apply if you have less experience but with a background that fits our requirements.
- You are respected by your peers in the maritime industry.
- You have a good understanding of global issues in a maritime industry context.
- You have, or have the potential to establish and maintain, a strong network of contacts within IG clubs, industry bodies, members and the wider maritime industry.
- You articulate excellent English both verbally and in writing – clear, succinct and precise.
- You deliver your message by embracing technology and evolving communication methods.
- You have the necessary attributes to develop into a professional ambassador with a proven track record of influencing others to collaborate towards effective solutions.
- You may not yet be able to evidence years of experience, but you are a hard-working, self-driven, pragmatic strategist.
- You may be a shipping/insurance professional, or an executive of a P&I club or other marine insurer, shipping or industry organisation.
